Podgorican Street Art

We have just over two weeks before we leave Montenegro for our journey home. When I talked to Peter last, he suggested we take photos of the everyday sights we take for granted now since those are the ones we'll probably miss the most later on. I thought it was a good idea and realized that all but maybe two or three of these posts have featured places other than Podgorica, the city we've made our home over the last several months. So we'll start with some of the murals that we either pass every day or that are especially memorable ... hopefully ones that I didn't post earlier in the year.

There are two main routes I take to school when I head out to teach. This mural has perplexed me everytime I passed it, but after some online research, I've finally figured out that it's about the football (remember, that's soccer) club here in Podgorica. Buducnost, "Future," is the name of the club. It was established in 1925 and Google says that a rough translation of the text, Dosla je jos jedna subota, is "came (or come?) another Saturday." They won the league title in 2008. And yes, I most certainly should have known this before the last weeks of my time in Podgorica.

Alex and I discovered this alley when we went in search of Laterna, a restaurant I'd read about in the Lonely Planet guide but we hadn't yet been to. The restaurant was great (the guide says they have the best pizza in Montenegro, though, and while it was good pizza, I think Maestro, the pizzeria across the street from our apartment has them beat). But before we ate, I got a little sidetracked by the alley a block away:

Around the corner from the bakery at the end of our street:

This one is an alley on our street, so I pass it every day, no matter which route I take to school. No insights on meanings for it, but it's interesting:

At the other end of the alley, I found this (no date with this one, though for obvious reasons I'm assuming it's pre-2001):

More Podgorica photos to come later tonight ...
