Dogs of Istanbul

Monday 11/16/2009 8:00 AM

This post is specifically for Peter. As I mentioned earlier, there were a lot of stray dogs in Istanbul, and most of them had tags in their ears showing that they had been vaccinated by the government. Peter asked me to take pictures of the dogs, of course, but also the tags. So we begin with "Dog Attempting to Sleep in Park Despite Obnoxious Tourist Taking Pictures of Him":

"Sleeping Dog's Tag" (we didn't see this kind of tag on any other dogs in Istanbul ... I'm guessing it's an older one):

"Fluffly Sleeping Dog with Tag":

"Dog with Takeout Dish We Didn't Give Him":

"Dog with Scar and Tag":

"Close Up of Scarred Dog's Tag":

"Dog Eating Spaghetti" (spaghetti courtesy of Alex):

"Contented Dog Having Eaten Spaghetti":

We saw this last one almost every day around the corner from our hostel and made fast friends with him (I'm not sure but I think he might be the same dog that's featured in the third photo of this post). He was always outside a particular restaurant and, like the stray cats we saw, seemed pretty well taken care of by the staff.
