Ike Comes to Ohio

In case you haven't heard, what was left of Ike blew through Ohio a week ago today with 75+ mph winds.  I just typed a much longer blog entry about it, but lost it when I hit a wrong button at the end.  So the short version is this:

So I took some photos of damage to trees on our block.  The one at the top of this page is of a tree a couple of houses away ... now pegged, I think, to be taken all the way down. This next one is in front of our next-door neighbor's house.

This had been the tallest tree on our block:

Nearly half the trees lining our street just snapped in half:

And when they didn't, they dropped branches all around:

 The tree we watched most closely in our front yard miraculously, it seems, only dropped a few "twigs" (compared to the damage in other people's frontyards):

We had more significant issues in the backyard, but I didn't get photos before we cleaned up.
