Ice Cream Festival

Monday 06/02/2008 9:39 AM

Last weekend, we went to the Velvet ice cream factory in Utica, Ohio for their 34th annual festival. The highlight of the day was Alex's participation in an ice-cream eating contest, as you can see below:

Here's Alex checking out the competition among the 3-7 year olds.

He was contestant #1 in the 8-12 year old category.

Now he's ready: glasses and watch removed and given to mom for safe keeping.

He digs in, with scantily-clad young women cheering him on! (they had 3 minutes to eat as much as possible)

I think he was having second thoughts about what he'd gotten himself into as he finished his first pint.

Starting his second pint with a third already in line: it was a dirty job, but someone had to do it.

Time's up, and he ate 1-2/3 pints!  And no, he didn't throw up, even though he thought that he might.

Alex and the winner, #9, who consumer 3-1/2 pints in 3 minutes (their empty pints are behind their feet). Something tells me this wasn't #9's first rodeo.

Afterward, we looked at old cars (the owner said Alex could sit in it).

And we found Speed Racer at the car show.

And we saw a border collie (!) herding demonstration ...

though we all know that pictures don't really do justice to how wise these dogs are.

On Friday, we're heading down to Florida for a month -- Alex will live with his Uncle Peter & Aunt Candy in Tallahassee while I take off to do work in Daytona Beach and then Colorado, with stays in Tallahassee in between ... so expect more photos soon.
