It's been five months since I last updated this blog, but the Great Blizzard of 2008 gives me occasion to do it. I know our blizzard probably looks more like a flurry to some of you in the northlands, but according to our local weather guy, it's the biggest snow dump in Columbus from one storm in a hundred years. The official airport measurement is 20.4 inches. So here are the photos from Friday evening through Sunday morning:

Alex in the snowdrift on Friday evening (the snow didn't stop falling for another 24 hours).

Freya was not happy about the state of her dogrun: we had to carry her outside because she wouldn't go out on her own.

The night of the blizzard, she was much happier with her penguin by the fire.

And Calvin was content to help me with my knitting.

Ray generously started shoveling us out around noon on Saturday -- it seemed to slow down a little then, but the tv folks were still calling it a "blizzard" until 4.

Alex taking a break from helping his dad.

Alex standing behind the snowbank along the driveway.

It's sort of hard to see how deep it is here, but this is Ray when he's 1/2 done with the driveway.

Here's Alex once all the shoveling was done. I just realized that I don't have any photos of him actually working, but he did -- honest.

He was thrilled to have a snowbank taller than him.

The funniest picture we have of Freya because she looks so fierce (she coughed just as I took the picture) when she is actually a very gentle dog.

Freya chewing on Alex's hand.

A closeup of Freya as she licks my sweater for a reason only known to her.

This is where I found Alex after he went out to play on Sunday morning.
More photos to come ... Alex is going sledding this afternoon.
