Uncle Peter, Aunt Candy, Brother George and CALVIN

Saturday 09/22/2007 3:28 PM

I think this is one of my favorite photos from the summer: the guys just hanging out (that would be Alex on the left and Peter on the right):

Notice the red cage in front of Alex? Peter helped Alex adopt a kitten before we left. Here's a photo of Calvin on his first evening out of the cat shelter (he's hiding under a wardrobe here, but Alex crawled under to snap a few photos):

Later, Uncle Peter and Brother George (just to clarify, that would be Candy's Brother George, not Alex's Brother George) helped put Alex to bed:

And the next morning, it was time for goodbyes and the long drive home to Ohio (this is another gem of a photo, if I do say so myself ... just look at the expression on Peter's face!):

And then there's the somewhat less flattering photo of Aunt Candy's goodbye hug (I'm sure she's overwhelmed with sorrow at the thought of Alex's departure ... or he's stepping on her toe):

And I've just gotta say it: Alex had an awesome time with Peter and Candy, and I'm eternally grateful to them for taking such good care of him while I was in Europe.  It was difficult, of course, for me to be separated from him, but I never doubted that he was in good hands.  He was significantly more independent and confident at the end of the month than he was at the beginning, and I'm certain that it had everything to do with Peter and Candy's awesome foster parenting skills. I never could have made this trip without them.

File Under: Alex; Family; Florida; Peter; Tallahassee
