I obviously didn't get back to the blog as quickly as I thought I would. As it turns out there's quite a bit of stuff to distract me from it here in the States. I also didn't take as many photos as I was hoping I would once I made it back to Florida. But I'm playing catch-up today, and I'm going to try to keep this going with a post or two each week now that I'm back into a routine at home.
So ... Florida. Aside from sleeping, visiting with Peter and Candy, and adjusting to being a mom again, I didn't do a whole lot there after my plane landed. I did take Alex to St. George Island (my all-time favorite beach), though, and here are some photos from that daytrip.
The drive to the island from Tallahassee is about 90 minutes, and there isn't a whole lot to see for most people -- mostly pine forests and fishing villages -- but a lot of these places were filled with memories for me, so I detoured a bit to find the road we lived on when I was in high school:

Another forest road leading to a swimming hole I frequented during high school:

The "World's Smallest Police Station" in Carrabelle, Florida -- I think it's safe to say that this is the only tourist attraction in Carrabelle. For the record, the phone inside the booth doesn't work. (I tried to get Alex to pose in front of it, but he was too eager to get to the beach):

Here is the sign ("The Uncommon Florida") you see when you come off the four-mile bridge that connects the island with the mainland:

Some of the smaller dunes at St. George Island:

A look down the coastline (since it was a weekday, we had virtually the whole beach to ourselves):

"You're not in Ohio anymore, kid!" (or, Alex's first introduction to salt water):

A few minutes later:

There are a lot more photos of him in the waves -- it's what he did all day. We'd planned to stay only for the morning, but after lunch, he convinced me (it wasn't too hard to do) that we really oughta stay for the afternoon too, since we didn't know when we'd be back. I think this one best illustrates his experience of the ocean, though: he played until he literally dropped:

And Alex in the car, before we made it out of the state park that maintains the beach:
