Midnight Sun - sort of

I sent some postcards out yesterday and wrote on a few of them that there isn't a sunset here, but last night I learned that's not entirely true. A lot of the time, the sunset is blocked by trees (or buildings or clouds) so I haven't actually seen the big red ball fall below the horizon. And now that I think about it, I realize that I haven't seen the sun itself in days, though I'm surrounded by the light of it. I can't tell if this is just how Finland is in the summer, or if it's because there are so many clouds around (it's rained nearly every day since I've been here).

I've missed the peak of midnight sun and the midsummer festivals by a few weeks, but here are some photos taken from the same park last night. It's still significantly lighter out at night than it is in the US.  Here is 10 pm:

And then I went back to the hotel so I don't have the midnight picture, but you get the idea, right?
