I've been in Cambridge for two full days. Spent all day yesterday in the library reading Milne's handwritten manuscripts of Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, but today I had a lot of wandering time on my hands. I'm not sure it's really fair to call it "wandering" around City Centre, since all roads lead either to a little old college or to the River Cam, but I rarely consulted maps. I've been walking into town each day -- here's the path I take from Emily & Gavin's place:

And then I cut through the Cavendish Laboratory complex (where some rich American computer geek built a big ole building):

After winding my way through the scientists, I end up at the bike path:

The bike path takes me directly to the Wren Library at Trinity College (though I wasn't actually reading at the Wren, unfortunately, since they are removing asbestos from it this summer ... I was reading in a stuffy, little room in the far end of the building you see on the right side of this photo):

And here's a picture of the other end of the quad:

(I know the Brits have a better name than "quad" for the big span of grass in between these two buildings, but it's slipping my mind right now. Maybe because I'm busy remembering that there are signs posted all over asking folks to not walk on College grass. That's right, you have to go around. I kept feeling the urge to run and skip and do cartwheels across this big mass of green, but I resisted long enough to get myself out of there without being kicked out.)
